I’m Mike Craig, a green woodworker and woodcarver based at the Otley Chevin Forest Park which is situated above the historic market town of Otley, West Yorkshire.
I discovered the pleasure of working with green wood over ten years ago and became green woodworker in residence at The National Trust’s Nostell Priory and Parkland in West Yorkshire between 2012-2018. In 2019 I was granted a licence by Leeds City Council to run my courses from Otley Chevin Forest Park.
I’ve worked with trees my whole life and am a self confessed tree geek. It was my love of wood and woodlands that led to my discovery of traditional green woodworking which teaches us to work in harmony with the natural properties of the timber to produce beautiful and practical items.
The only thing I enjoy more than carving green wood bowls and spoons in a woodland setting is helping others to discover and develop their own woodland craft skills.
